S-042 Antarctic Telepresence/Power Demonstration Project
Abstracts (provided by Bob Wharton)
1992-93 (the season I was there):
Working with investigators from the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, we will demonstrate the potential uses of a basic
telepresence system-a system that can see but not move. This system,
attached to a submersible remotely operated vehicle, will be used to map the
biological, chemical, and physical characteristics of ice covered Lake Hoare
in Taylor Valley. With data obtained by this system we will develop
three-dimensional profiles of temperature, light, currents, dissolved
oxygen, and microbial distribution and morphology.
